Man City vs Aston Villa match preview

City have won 5 games in a row and are uneaten in 9. In those 9 games they have scored 19 goals and conceded just 2. This is the third in a tough run of games for Villa, as they are coming off the back of a loss to Man United and a draw against Chelsea, though Villa have scored 8 goals in their last 4 games.. Villa have scored 8 goals in their last 4 games. On current form Man City look a difficult team to beat, but this Villa team are no mugs and can trouble bigger sides. The result may be risky to call as may the number of goals. As both teams have kept clean sheets in over 50% of their games, and City’s recent defensive form has been very good. Booking looks likely in particular for Aston Villa who average close to 2 yellow cards a game. City’s average is not as high but there are teams in this league that City just don’t need to commit fouls against, they control possession for large periods and the need to give away a free kick to stop a counter attack or go flying into a 50/50 with the game on the line is just not there. Luckily Aston Villa are not one of those teams and will be able to cause City problems, especially on the counter attack. Plus in the last 3 Villa games there have been13 yellows and 1 red card, and 11 of those yellows were for Villa’s opponents. The clear and obvious angle for this game is corners. 2 of the top teams not just in the league but in Europe in terms of their corner average. City average just under 7 a game and Villa average over 7 a game. Every single Villa league game this season has had a minimum of 8 corners, and Villa themselves have had 7 or more corners in 10 out of their 15 games. City have had 6 or more corners in 12 of their games this year. The last 2 Villa league games have both seen 15 corners, and the last 2 City games have both seen 12. This looks a good game and corners is clearly the standout bet, as it would be no surprise to see both teams have at least 5 corners each, and we could see an overall corner count for both teams that is very high.

Fulham vs Man United match preview

Fulham have drawn 5 and lost 2 of their last 7. Man United have won 9 and drawn 3 of their last 12. Fulham have had a tough run of games lately, coming off back to back games against Spurs and Chelsea, they also played Leicester, Man City and Liverpool all over the Christmas period. Fulham have had 2 or more bookings in there last 4 games, and Man United have had at least 1 card in their last 8 games, so it looks likely both teams will have a player in the book at some point. Though there are no obviously strong trends from the stats. The clearest pick looks to be Man United to win. As mentioned above Fulham players will be feeling the effects of recent weeks and with limited squad numbers, Scott Parker has little option with alternatives or resting players. Add that to a Man United team unbeaten in 12 who have the chance to go back to the top of the table with a win and you have to expect a fired up United side to have too much for a Fulham side who have found some sort of stability at the back, but still need to improve at both ends of the field if they want to stay up.
