Southampton vs Liverpool match preview

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 12, though they have drawn 6 of those, including their last 2. Southampton are winless in their last 4 and have not scored in their last 3 games. This Southampton team are not the type to roll over and have proved to be tough to beat this season, losing only 2 of their last 14 games, and those defeats came against both Manchester clubs, whilst they have drawn against Chelsea and Arsenal in that time. Liverpool have only lost once this season, though will be frustrated with how many games they have drawn, especially recently against West Brom, Newcastle, Fulham and Brighton. The recent results and Liverpool’s recent trouble to kill off lesser teams makes the result slightly harder to predict than it may first appear when you see the joint top team travelling away to a midtable side. Also with Liverpool coming off a 0-0 draw and Southampton coming off back to back 0-0 draws, it’s a difficult game to be confident of a high number of goals.

Liverpool have one of the highest average corner counts of any side in the UK averaging over 6.5 per game, add that to the fact Southampton giveaway an average of over 5 corners a  game, it would be no surprise to see Liverpool get allot of corner kicks in this one. Southampton are no slouches with corners and consistently have 3 or more corners in their matches, so corners looks like it could be a good avenue to follow if you are betting on this game. Southampton look likely to see a booking or two, though the cards angle on this game becomes difficult to predict as Liverpool have had 7 games this season where they did not get any bookings, mainly due to the fact they hold possession for long periods of the game and are usually comfortable enough in the match that they don’t need to commit fouls.

With question marks over the outcome and 1 side of the bookings, it does appear like corners is the safest betting angle for this game.
